Town of Clinton – Budget Hearing November 17, 2021
Special town meeting was called to order at 7 pm at the town hall. List of attendees follows.
The board presented a resolution to exceed the allowable levy by $84,821 with a total levy of $258,317.
A lengthy discussion ensued over the proposed budget.
Phil Hewitt, the Vernon County Highway Commissioner, was invited to comment on Irish Ridge Road. He noted that although the proposed 3’ mat would last the longest there were other options the town could consider. He also noted it was advantageous to prepare a good base one year and finish with a hard surface the following year as the winter often wreaks havoc on new roads as was seen on Highway 14.
Motion was made to vote by paper ballot.
The resolution to exceed the limit was vetoed: 50 nays, 25 yeas, 30 abstain.
The vote on the proposed levy was vetoed: 49 nays, 27 yeas, 29 abstain.
The allowable levy of $158,793 was passed unanimously by hand vote.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40 pm.
